Jazz Festival in Krakow – Masters and Youngsters

Every year in April a celebration of jazz takes place during the Jazz Festival in Krakow Masters and Youngsters. This festival aims to foster the relationship between young jazz performers from all over the world with experienced and esteemed jazz artists during several days of concerts.

2017 Jazz Festival in Krakow Masters and Youngsters

This year’s Jazz Festival will take place between 25 and 30 April 2017. 

This year’s edition will commemorate the First Lady of Song – Ella Fitzgerald on the centenary of her birthday. The special concert Tribute to Ella Fitzgerald will open the 2017 Masters and Youngsters Festival on 25 April. The concert will take place at Radio Krakow and include performances of the most talented jazz artists of the young generation.

China Moses is this year’s festival headliner. China Moses is an international jazz star that gained recognition a few years ago after an acclaimed cooperation with pianist and composer Raphaël Lemonniere that led to creating the project Gardenias for Dinah. Krakow Variete Theatre will host the artist’s concert (26 April, 8 p.m.), a premiere performance of her latest project – Nightintales.

27 April and 28 April will be dedicated to Polish jazz bands and their premiere performances. Zbigniew Namyslowski Quintet with the Polish Jazz – Yes! concert will perform at Radio Krakow (27 April, 8 p.m.). Adam Baldych & Helge Lien Trio’s Bridges will be hosted by the Manggha Museum (28 April, 8 p.m.)

Young Jazz Scene (29 April, 8 p.m., Manggha Museum) will be a chance to hear performances of the most promising rising stars of jazz – Adam Jarzmik Quintet and Mateusz Palka Trio.

Traditionally, 30 April is dedicated to celebrating the International Jazz Day, as the Jazz Festival in Krakow is organised under patronage of UNESCO.

Every day during the festival, everyone is welcome to join a Jam Session organised at the Piec Art club.
