Alojzy Rafał Estreicher

Botanist, professor of the Krakow Academy, born in 1786 Director of the Botanical Garden, died in 1852 in Krakow. He studied medicine at the Krakow Academy. Doctor of medicine, assistant professor of veterinary medicine, simultaneously studied zoology, botany and mineralogy in Vienna. He was also a professor of natural history and botany at the Central School of the Crown and a doctor of philosophy. He collected plants and insects. The chaffinch he found, or rather the whole species, was named after him.
Alojzy was a social activist, organizer and activist of the Krakow Scientific Society, two-time dean of the University, rector and senator of the Republic of Krakow.
