Bednarski Wojciech

Wojciech Bednarski, a teacher and a social activist, was born in 1841 in Kunice and died in 1914 in Krakow. In 1869-1894 he was a headmaster of the first primary school in Podgórze, he was also a mayor of Podgórze, which is now one of the Krakow’s central districts, but till 1915 used to be a separate city. Thanks to his initiative the old quarry was changed into a park, which in 1901 was named after Wojciech Bednarski. The park reconstruction was made with the use of his plans, works lasted from 1884 till 1896. You can find several monuments in this park, Bednarski’s bust is among them.
