Political activist, poet and journalist born in Warsaw. Natural son of Tsar Alexander I and Helena Rautenstrauchowa née Dzierżanowska. In 1833 he began studies at the Faculty of Literature and Philosophy of the Jagiellonian University. In Warsaw, he began his underground activity in the Association of the Polish People. In 1838 he was arrested and sentenced to death. Pardoned and sent to Siberia, where he stayed for 20 years. In 1858 he returned to Warsaw and collaborated with “Gazeta Polska” and “The Warsaw Library”. In 1870 he settled permanently in Kraków. He lived in a house at 5 Długa Street in Kraków. At the age of 18, he wrote the song “When the nation stepped out into battle”, in it he included his assessment of the November Uprising. The piece was published in 1848 in the selection of the poetry “Sounds of Past Years”. The place of printing of this volume is unknown, although it is signed by a Paris printing house.
