In 1992, the Association of Polish Artists and Designers informed the authorities of Krakow of their readiness to take over Fort 31 for the establishment of the International Center for Contemporary Art in it. It was part of the former Austrian fortress around Krakow. It was built in the mid-19th century on the Rękawka hill, next to the church of St. Benedict. It has been under renovation for several years, but a group of Krakow artists is already using it, and so in November ’93 19 Polish and 2 Austrian artists worked there. The project was curated by Barbara Maroń and she organized the first exhibition. It is a place that will help you get closer to contemporary art.
