Krakow Film Festival is one of the oldest such events in Europe focusing on documentary, animation and short film forms. Many esteemed Polish artists began their careers on that festival, including Krzysztof Kieslowski, Marcel Lozinski or Zbigniew Rybczynski, Oscar winner for the film Tango in 1982. The festival was first organised in 1961 as a native event, but soon it gained an international recognition and is now a member of accredited festivals by, among others, the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF). Such an honour makes it easier for the winners and laureates of Krakow Film Festival to compete for European Film Academy awards and Oscars nominations.

Krakow Film Festival is organised annually and comprises of four competitions – documentary film competition, short film competition, national competition and music documentary film competition. Each year some 700 guests are invited to the festival. Special events organised during the festival include non-competing segments such as Festivals Winners, dedicated to screenings of already awarded films, Music Video Night, a night-time review of the most interesting music videos of alternative music, or the segment Focus On… which features film screenings, presentations and meetings with artists and filmmakers from this edition’s partner country.
Krakow Film Festival 2017
This year, Krakow Film Festival will be held between 28 May and 4 June.
This edition’s special country guest is Germany. During the segment Focus On… several German documentary and short films will be screened, as well as the programme will include activities for children and a selection of student films.
Krakow Film Festival 2017 will open with the screening of documentary film “Beksinscy” depicting the tragic story of Beksinski family through the never-before-seen authentic family video and photo materials.
