Leon Piniński

He was a politician, lawyer, and social activist living from 1857 to 1938. He was a professor of Roman law at the Jan Kazimierz University in Lviv, a member of the Austrian Council of State, governor of Galicia, and a member of the House of Lords. Moreover, a member of the Skills Academy, doctor of  Jagiellonian University in Krakow. Fulfilling himself on many levels, acting in many organizations such as the Wawel Committee or the Committee of Works in the Representative Gamles of the Republic of Poland, Leon became an art collector creating huge collections. His collections became a base that gave an example for others, encouraging them to donate to Wawel and to create similar foundations. This resulted in the collection of numerous gifts sent by Potocki, Fukierski, Mycielski, Abrahamowicz, Tarnowski and Starzyński. The Wawel Castle owes a collection of 350 paintings to Leon Piniński.
