Priest, prelate, pastor of the Wawel Cathedral, prelate, born and died in Krakow in 1903-1983. He entered the theological seminary in Krakow and studied theology at the Jagiellonian University. In 1925 he has ordained a priest and a year later he graduated from the university, obtaining the title of doctor. He became a curate in Ruszcza, where, apart from the priesthood, he taught at school. He was also a vicar and a catechist in Wadowice and there he met Karol Wojtyła, whom he became a friend and confessor. In 1933 he was sent to Krakow as vicar of the Wawel Cathedral. During the Nazi occupation, all Poles were expelled from Wawel, the cathedral was closed, and only upon a probe by Metropolitan Adam Stefan Sapieha, mass was allowed only twice a week, without the participation of the faithful, accompanied by German soldiers. One of the two priests who conducted these masses was Figlewicz, and the other was S. Jankowski. With time, only Figlewicz was able to conduct these masses, and with time, he became the cathedral’s pastor. His activities and scientific work led to the discovery of the tomb of King Kazimierz. Figlewicz was a warm, helpful and caring man adored by the faithful.
