Cardiac surgeon, professor at Collegium Medicum of the Jagiellonian University, born in Rogaczew Wielkopolski. After graduating from the Medical Academy in Poznań, he worked as an assistant in the Department of General Surgery at the Municipal Hospital of Józef Strus and, at the same time, from 1960 at the Department of Experimental and Operational Surgery of the Medical Academy in Poznań, managing there from 1965 the Cytodiagnostic Laboratory at the Department of Pathological Anatomy of the Medical Academy. Then he became a senior assistant in the Department of Thoracic Surgery and in 1966-1972 an assistant professor at the Medical Academy in Łódź, and in 1973-1978 an associate professor at the Department of Cardiac Surgery of the Institute of Cardiology.
In 1979 he moved to Krakow and at the Jana Pawła II, he organized and ran the Heart and Vascular Surgery Clinic of the Medical University. At the same time, he was the director of the Institute of Cardiology of the Academy, then the Collegium Medicum of the Jagiellonian University, from 1987 a professor. In later years he did an internship in Houston USA, London.
He participated in the experimental and research processes on the first Polish artificial heart-lung machine, participated in the implementation of heart surgery in normothermia, and acted for the introduction of a method of surgical treatment of ischemic heart disease. He was a co-contractor of the first human heart transplant in Poland, and in 1974 a contractor for the implementation in Poland of the method of implanting aortic heart valves from fresh human corpses for the first time in Poland.
In 1977 he perfected surgery for aortic aneurysms. He also organized an excellent team of doctors in the heart and vascular surgery clinic. He has organized numerous conferences and is a member of many associations and organizations. Author and co-author of approximately 180 scientific papers in several languages. Awarded min. Gold Cross of Merit, Medal of them. M. Kopernika AM in Krakow, Commander’s Cross with Gwiazda and others.
