Gottlieb Maurycy

The painter, born in Drohobycz in 1856, died in Kraków in 1879, was the most talented of his brothers, who were all painting artists. In 1869 he studied at the studio of Michał Godlewski in Lviv, from 1871 he studied in Vienna, from 1874 at the Krakow School of Fine Arts, then again in Vienna and Munich for some time. He made a study trip to Italy. His works foreshadowed post-impressionist tendencies, the portraits reflected the mental states of the models. The paintings are scattered around private collections and museums around the world. In the National Museum in Krakow there are “Ahaswer”, “Portrait of Ignacy Kuranda” and others, in Wawel there are “Rachel” or “Eleazar”
