Kossak Leon

Kossak Leon was a painter, Juliusz’s younger brother, born in Nowy Wiśnicz in 1827. He served in the Austrian army, fought in the corps of general Bem in Hungary (1848), later lived in Paris and Australia. In 1860 he fought in Garibaldi’s troops, in 1863 he fought in the January Uprising. He was wounded in the battle of Kock and taken as a prisoner. He was sentenced to 8 years of hard labor in Siberia. He returned to Krakow around 1873 and died there in 1877.

Painting was a hobby for Leon, he did not have a proper education. He painted and drew mainly battle and genre scenes. His most famous works are:
