Bagels

According to some sources bagels were invented in Krakow by Polish Jews. It is a kind of bread baked  in the shape of a ring or a donut. Before baking it in the oven the bagel should be put to the boiling water with honey and spices for few seconds. After this it is usually topped by salt or poppy seeds and only then baked. Usually bagels were sold in small kiosks or straight from the baskets. There is a controversy about obwarzanek krakowski (Krakow cracknel), is it the new name for bagel or are they two absolutely different kinds of baking?
