Bloody Spring 1936 tells the story of confectionery and industrial workers who in 1936, faced with starvation wages, demanded increases and stopped extending working hours, and also demanded the reinstatement of the dismissed union members. Some of them paid for it with their lives.
The workers of the cigarette factory and the spirit monopoly went on strike, later the workers of the “Suchard”, “Semperit” chocolate factories and the Wieliczka Salt Mine joined. On March 23, a general strike was announced and a march to the Main Square to the monument of Adam Mickiewicz, numbering 10,000 people, was organized. There were then riots with the police, during which 8 workers were killed and several dozen were injured.
