Gucci Santi

The architect, Italian sculptor, born in Florence, died in Mirów near Pińczów. He was also called Florentino, his surname was also spelled Guci, Guczy. He studied in Florence in his father’s workshop called Gucci della Camilla. After 1550 he came to Poland, and from 1558 he appeared in the files as a bricklayer, first of King Zygmunt August, then of Anna Jagiellon and Stefan Batory. His headquarters were in Pińczów, but he was also a resident of Krakow. He conducted many years of artistic activity. He designed a mascaron for the Cloth Hall, the door frame for the rooms of the 2nd floor of the castle in Niepołomice, Stefan Batory’s palace in Łobzów, and rebuilt the St. Mary’s Chapel in the Wawel Cathedral into the mausoleum of Stefan Batory.
Historians attribute to him coats of arms and mascarons of a magnificent attic on Bonerowska’s tenement house on the Main Market Square no. 9. He made royal tombstones and built a palace in Mirów. His workshop was related to the chapel of the Myszkowski family at the Dominican Order in Kraków.
