Kossak Karol

Kossak Karol was a painter, grandson of Juliusz Kossak and nephew of Wojciech Kossak. He was born in Lviv in 1896. He mainly painted landscapes, horses, and rural architecture. He learned drawing in his youth in Lviv, and later in Vienna. He fought in the First World War, because he was drafted into the Austrian army. He was wounded on the Italian front.

In the years 1918-1921 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, later he moved to Lviv. Most often he lived and worked in Tatarowo nad Prutem, where in 1943 a tragedy happened. His house and most of the paintings burned down. From 1948 he lived in Ciechocinek, where he died in 1975. In his funeral procession, all the carriages in Ciechocinek followed the coffin.
