Kossak-Szczucka Szatkowska Zofia was an award-winning writer and publicist, born in 1890. She was the daughter of Tadeusz Kossak and the niece of Wojciech. She attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, and later in Geneva. For some time she worked as a teacher in Warsaw. She was associated with the Czartak poetry group, and also collaborated with the Catholic press. During the Nazi occupation, she was one of the activists in the underground, co-organizer of the Council to Aid Jews (Żegota) and co-editor of underground magazines. In 1943, she was sent to the concentration camp in Oświęcim, from where she was released a year later thanks to various efforts. She also participated in the Warsaw Uprising. She died in 1968.
She wrote historical novels as well as short stories and novels for children. Her main works are:
