Niepołomice

A small town located about 25 km east of Krakow. The origins of Niepołomice can be found in a settlement complex dating back to the early Middle Ages associated with the already existing there already in the 13th century fortress called Grobla. The settlement was rebuilt by Casimir the Great, then by Władysław Jagiełło and then by the last Jagiellons. The center of the settlement was a castle on three sides, surrounded by a moat, and on the fourth from the east – with ponds, the whole was fortified. War damage led the settlement to a half-ruin, only at the beginning of the 18th century, after it was granted city rights, the city developed and revived. It was here that the salt port of Wieliczka, the church, which is a must-see point in the city, and the castle. Casimir the Great founded them and received the call of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Ten Thousand Martyrs from Mount Ararat. The church is distinguished by a rich interior, wall paintings and decorations are in the Gothic style.
