Lucjan Rydel

Poet, playwright, prose writer, translator, born and died in Krakow. He studied law at the Jagiellonian University, where he obtained his doctorate and continued his studies in Berlin. Later, he lived in Warsaw, where he collaborated with “Gazeta Polska”. He married the daughter of a peasant from Bronowice Małe, Wyspiański was the wedding participant, who described it in his work “The Wedding”, and Lucjan was the inspiration for the groom’s personality. In order to earn for the renovation of the wedding house, which he bought, he was active in the city: he established folk reading rooms, organized readings, performances, and wrote poems with a folk motif. He was greatly appreciated by “Black Forest From Krakow”, “Magic Circle” and “Zygmunt August”.
