Dominik Franciszek a Paulo Estreicher

Painter, born in Igława in Moravia, died in Kraków. His father, Józef, was a doctor, then his surname was Osterreicher. At the age of 18, Dominik left for Italy and studied painting at the Academy of St. Luke. In Rome he met Hugo Kołłątaj, at whose invitation he came to Warsaw. For 3 years he decorated the royal castle and Łazienki.  When Hugon was reforming, the University of Kraków brought Dominik here. He taught drawing at the Nowodworski school and became a professor at the Main School of the Crown (name of UJ at that time). He bought a house at Szczepański Square and brought his wife to Kraków. His mementos are still in the Jagiellonian University Museum, some of the works are in the possession of the family. He conducted theater plays, caught butterflies, was interested in pyrotechnics. Alojzy – his son engraved the name Estreicher on his tombstone – Dominik had 12 children, and two survived: Klara and Alojzy.
