Florentczyk Franciszek

Architect, Italian sculptor. He died in 1516 in Kraków. He came to Poland from Hungary as the first Italian Renaissance artist. The royal builder and architect worked at the courts of King Aleksander Jagiellończyk, Elżbieta Rakuszanka, the wife of Sigismund I the Old. His greatest work was the construction of the west and north wings at the Wawel Castle. His work is also the architectural enclosure of the tombstone of King Jan Olbracht in the chapel of the Wawel Cathedral, and he is also credited with the portal of the former Erazm Ciółek Palace at 17 Kanonicza St. in Krakow.
