Scheidt Franciszek

Chemist, physicist and botanist, born in Kraków, died in Krzemieniec. A graduate of the Krakow Academy, where in 1779 he obtained a doctorate in philosophy, from 1780 he was a physics teacher in Lublin, then in Krakow, he taught physics, natural history and craftsmanship at the Main Schools. During his stay with King August Poniatowski in Krakow, he read in his presence the essay “On the chemical affinity of bodies”, he also accompanied the king on his journey through the land of Krakow and Sandomierz, showing him the local natural resources, steel mills and mines. Meritorious for the development of the Botanical Garden, co-organizer of the first Polish balloon flight in Krakow. Participant of the Kościuszko Uprising.
