Nawojka

In the past centuries, there were regulations at the Krakow Academy that forbade girls from entering the university. However, there was a girl named Nawojka who decided to study at the University. It probably happened in 1417 during the rector’s office of Mikołaj Sołtyk. She came from Wielkopolska and enrolled at the University as Jakub son of Dominik from Gniezno. According to another assumption, she used the name Andrzej. Disguised as a student, she began studying with other scholars. She was diligent, she worked. Unfortunately, after she got seek a doctor informed everyone that she was lying, she is a girl, not a boy. Nawojka faced punishment, although professors and students stood up for her. She had to leave universities and enter a monastery. There, having become famous for her knowledge and wisdom, she became an aboot after many years. According to another version, after being removed from the university, she ran a monastery nursery. The legend of Nawojka lives on to this day, one of the dormitories and the main street in Czarna Wieś are named after her.
