Jadwiga from Łobzów

Jadwiga from Łobzów was a poet, teacher and community worker. Her real name is Jadwiga z Zubrzyckich Strokowej and she was born in 1854 in Tłuste. She was an activist of the Folk School Society (Polish: Towarzystwo Szkoły Ludowej), as well as the author of many books for children and teenagers as well as patriotic poems. One of the streets in Bronowice, which is now a district of Krakow, was named after her. She died in 1916 and was buried at the Rakowice cemetery in Kraków.

At the beginning of the XVII century one outstanding Jewish bookseller appears. Chronicles state that he was bringing books even from Venice, that was quite a rear thing at those times. In 1618 the book store was closed by king Zygmunt III, as its existence was inducing the anti-Jewish tumults.
