Maria Jarema called Jaremianka was a painter and sculptor. She was born in 1908 in Stary Sambor, and died in 1958 in Kraków. For 7 years she studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, later she studied in Paris and Vienna. From 1934 she worked as a set designer and actress in the Cricot Theater, and later in the puppet theater. During the war, she was an activist in the underground movement, associated with the “Polska Ludowa” group. In addition to sculpture, she also practiced painting, graphics and set design. She is considered one of the most outstanding Polish painters. Her works have been exhibited in several countries and are now in private collections and in numerous museums, for example at the National Museum in Krakow.
